I earned my Bachelors degree in Physical Education K - 12 from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois and a Masters degree in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. I am a Physical Education teacher at Half Day School in Lincolnshire, Illinois. Half Day School is a 3rd grade and 4th grade school. I am currently in 18th year of teaching at Half Day.
I have been a counselor for 19 summers and am looking forward to my 20th summer this June 2010 at the North Shore Country Day Schools ' Summer Camp. I have been a Senior Counselor, a bus driver, and the Coordinator for the morning Extended Care program. My daughter Adrianna, age 9, has been going to camp for 5 summers and my daughter Morgan, age 7, has been going for 4 summers.
I choose to work at the NSCDS camp because it keeps me young... Working together with high school students, college students and young professionals keeps this “forty-something” young at heart. Also teaching, playing with , and leading young children is what I do best, so I choose each summer to come back and be a counselor so I can have a positive impact on our nation’s future leaders. I get satisfaction from seeing a young person smile, laugh, overcome a fear, seeing them learn how to be a friend and find a friend, and being a part of a group.
The qualities of the camp that I have seen over the past two decades is a consistent focus on the safety of each child. Children feel safe at North Shore and that is not just physically but also emotionally. We strive to make each child feel like they are part of a group, no matter who they are, they will be accepted at North Shore.
I feel the success of being a counselor at camp when I get to work alongside some of my campers who later become counselors as they get older. I feel I must have done something right and the camp is doing things right when a camper has such a positive experience at North Shore that they would like to pass it on by being a counselor themselves.
